FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HSH Pike County Announces 2003 Results
Feb. 27 News Release
Successful HSH Program
MILFORD - Area hunters contributed 38 deer during the
2003-2004 hunting season and a total of 1,147 pounds of ground venison was
distributed to three food banks in Pike County.
John Crerand, Pike County Coordinator for Hunters Sharing the Harvest (HSH), announced this year's total was up from 900 pounds donated and processed during the 2002-2003 season. The three participating food processors in the HSH program, now in its second year in Pike County, were Prime Time Meats of Milford, Brad's "All American" Bear and Deer Butcher Shop of Shohola, and HLF & Sons Butcher Shop in Greentown. Local food banks that distributed the ground meat were Ecumenical Food Pantry of Milford, Holy Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry of Dingmans Ferry, and Paupack United Methodist Loaves and Fishes of Paupack. HSH provides a unique opportunity for sportsmen and sportswomen to share their sport with those that may be the most needy and would not be able to participate in the hunting sport. Each year, Pike County HSH strives to improve upon the previous year's program and in turn benefit both hunters and food banks as well as assist in the management of woodlands and forests to assure this renewable resource is efficiently managed to provide for hunters and non-hunters within Pike County. To inquire about the HSH program, contact Crerand at 570-686-7611. |
