Dr. Dave Samuel Among Speakers at QDMA Event

Dr. David E. Samuel, Editor of Bowhunter Magazine, Columnist for Whitetail Journal, former Pope & Young board member and author of the book “Know Hunting” is one of four speakers at an upcoming Pike County Branch of QDMA Short Course on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dingman Township firehouse located at 680 Log Tavern Rd., Milford, near the intersection of Log Tavern Rd. and Route 739. Samuel will give two presentations. In the morning, he will review deer hunting and deer management compared to other regions of the country. During the afternoon, he will translate recent deer research findings into better deer hunting tactics.

Duane Diefenbach, PhD, Prof. of Wildlife Ecology Penn State and Asst. Unit Leader of the Pennsylvania Coop. Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, will review deer research in the state with its recent history and a look into the future.

Walt Cottrell DVM, filling a new position of Wildlife Veterinarian with the PA Game Commission, and heading up monitoring and response planning for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), will talk about CWD and Pennsylvania’s monitoring program.

Dave DeCalesta, PhD, Certified Wildlife Biologist-Consultant and former Research Wildlife Biologist with the US Forest Service NE Research Station, will give an overview of the work coordinating the Kinzua Quality Deer Cooperative and review findings on the 75,000-acre project in northwest Pa.

Branch presentations will be given by Peter Pinchot, Branch president, about current QDMA programs and activities, and Robin Wildermuth, Branch vice president, on Pike County data on deer densities and deer size.

Register to attend this educational seminar by sending your name, address, phone number, email address, and $15 for each individual attending, to Pike County QDMA, P.O.
